This Smarte Carte exclusive electronic labor management tool utilizes a variable reward system designed to provide incentive to employees or other groups charged with the responsibility of collecting and returning baggage carts to cart management units (CMUs).

When employees return carts to CMUs, they simply insert a special electronic memory “key” into the return end of the CMU. Smarte Key records the identification number of the return unit and the number of carts returned on the plastic key. At the end of each day, this information is downloaded and a monetary reward is calculated for each employee. Programming higher reward values on CMUs in areas where carts are needed most provides extra incentive for employees to keep busy CMUs full of carts at all times.
