In 1967, Hughes Industries
of Littleton, Colorado, had just begun manufacturing the first
airport baggage carts when Jim Muellner of White Bear
Lake, Minnesota, was contracted to streamline the cart's design.
After setting up nine baggage cart dispensers (now known as
cart management units) in Salt Lake City and just over a dozen
in Minneapolis, Hughes Industries went bankrupt trying to
produce a large order of carts for the Los Angeles International
